Have Your Say On Applying Social Value To International Development And Humanitarian Assistance

We need your insights into the use of Social Value in development and humanitarian assistance projects.

An increasing number of organisations working in international development and humanitarian assistance are looking to apply the principles of Social Value to evaluating and managing their impact.

Can you help us with the development of a Social Value checklist to support organisations in these sectors on their social value journey? Share your thoughts here.

The Social Value in Development and Humanitarian Assistance (SVDHA) group aims to support organisations in these sectors to apply Social Value, and to promote the use of Social Value more widely. We are engaging with organisations and practitioners across the world to do so.

Feedback shows that not all organisations are ready to start their Social Value journey. One of the barriers faced is a lack of practical guidance that is specific to these sectors. Much of the existing guidance is focused on high-income and English-speaking countries, and does not fully address challenges faced by those working in development and humanitarian assistance.

We plan to address this by preparing a Social Value checklist for these sectors, ahead of the Social Value Matters 2021 conference in October, hosted by Social Value Thailand. The checklist will present practical guidance on applying the Social Value principles and methodology, and address some of the challenges to the approach. We will also be presenting a set of Social Value case studies.

We need your help!

We want to draw on the experience and expertise of Social Value practitioners from across the world to ensure that the work reflects the diverse challenges faced by those creating Social Value on the ground.

So, we would be really grateful if you could answer a few important questions. You don’t need years of experience – we want to hear from you even if your experience of social value so far has not been in these sectors, or if you have only been involved in one or two projects.

The survey has three main questions:

  1. What are the challenges of applying the Social Value approach to international development and humanitarian assistance projects?
  2. What steps can organisations and practitioners take to improve the way they apply Social Value to the evaluation of international development and/or humanitarian assistance projects?
  3. What tools are available to support people working in these sectors on their social value journey?

Please send us your feedback as soon as possible! The survey will be open until the end of April. You can access the survey here.

You can also sign up to receive updates from SVDHA here.

Looking forward to getting your input!
